Fall Trail Ride

trailridepic1BTA/BOLT’s 2011 fall trail ride was a great success. Approximately 35 riders and hikers participated, enjoying the lovely West Boxford trails and the colorful foliage, on what turned out to be an absolutely beautiful fall day.  Many thanks to all who participated, and to all who volunteered, for this event!!

BTA/BOLT will hold its annual horse show Saturday, July 16, at the Lockwood-Moore Field at 28 Lockwood Lane in Boxford. Classes start at 8 a.m. and will finish about 3pm.  There will be four rings–dressage, trail, jump, and flat so there is something for everyone.

The classes range from leadline for children to 3-foot jumping so there are many levels of expertise.  Seven perpetuel trophies are given out. Please join us as a rider, or spectator or volunteer.

August 2, 3, & 4 9:00 am to 12:30 pm

Boxford has lots of wetlands including vernal pools, streams, ponds, and swamps. We’ll grab nets and explore these wet places to discover the animals that call them home. As we search the Wildcat Conservation Area for aquatic insects, amphibians, and reptiles, we’ll learn about their unique body parts that allow them to live in water. With luck, and our observation skills, we’ll get up-close looks at herons, turtles and frogs. A trip to Shaven Crown will complete our week as we venture into a wetland filled with natural sounds and towering ferns that will allow our imaginations to soar.

Each 3-day session is $72. Sign up for one or all of these exciting programs. Sign up>>

July 5, 6, & 7 9:00 am to 12:30 pm

Did you know Boxford contains a secret garden? The Kelsey Arboretum is a wonderful place for campers to get lost in their imagination. We’ll explore this enchanting world of plants, investigate their wonderful blooms, and discover the unique animals that make this garden their home. We’ll also visit Witch Hollow Farm to see the “natural gardens” of our fields and forests and build gnome homes for the local magical creatures. There will be time for games and interesting craft activities that will focus on the pollinators that make all of our wild and cultivated flowers possible.

Each 3-day session is $72. Sign up for one or all of these exciting programs. Sign up>>

June 28, 29, & 30 9:00 am to 12:30 pm

Come with us as we explore the woods and fields of Boxford while looking for evidence of predators. On Tuesday we’ll meet at the library, get to know one another, and talk about the coyotes, foxes, owls, hawks, and weasels that live in our neighborhood. These animals are often secretive, but we will learn how to interpret the clues they leave behind which indicate their presence. The next two days will be spent exploring Lockwood Forest and Bald Hill, where we will keep our eyes and ears open for signs of predators.

Each 3-day session is $72. Sign up for one or all of these exciting programs. Sign up>>
